A Nigerian breakfast cooking class in Brixton, London
Start your day the Nigerian way. In this hands-on Nigerian breakfast cooking class, you'll learn the traditional methods behind some of Nigeria's best-loved morning dishes, from blending beans into a batter for steamed moin moin to working with fermented corn for silky smooth ogi. You'll even bake a batch of soft, sweet Agege bread.
The class is welcoming and suitable for all skill levels. You don't need any experience of Nigerian cooking: everything is explained step by step, with plenty of guidance, stories and practical tips along the way. You'll leave able to cook a complete traditional Nigerian breakfast at home, with advice on where to buy ingredients in London and how to store them.

What you'll learn
- Sort and blend beans – learn about the beans used in Nigerian cooking and make a smooth, seasoned batter, then wrap it in leaves and steam it into moin moin, a savoury bean pudding.
- Get hands-on with fermentation – work with tangy fermented corn pulp to make smooth ogi. Plenty of help will be on hand if you need it.
- Bake Agege bread – make Nigeria's famous soft, pillowy sweet bread from scratch.
- Select and prepare yam – learn how to choose, peel and cut yam, then boil it until perfectly tender.
- Build layers of flavour – cook eyin riro, a rich, spicy egg sauce with scotch bonnets, tomatoes and aromatics, and learn how to balance heat and seasoning.
- Make a compound butter – whip up a savoury sardine butter (or a vegan tuna version) to spread on your warm bread.
- Take a seat – sit down together and enjoy your Nigerian breakfast feast.
What you'll eat and drink
- Moringa latte – a welcome drink to warm you up.
- Moin moin – bean batter wrapped in leaves and steamed into a savoury pudding.
- Ogi – smooth fermented corn porridge with a gentle tang.
- Boiled isu – tender, perfectly cooked yam.
